Application Note: ZSM-5 for FCC Additives
ZSM-5 is the most widely used FCC additive for propylene enhancement and gasoline octane improvement.
Recommended Grades
| Grade | Si/Al (molar) | Form | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| ZSM-5-25 | 20–30 | H-form powder | Maximum propylene response, high acidity |
| ZSM-5-50 | 40–60 | H-form powder | Balanced activity and stability |
| P-ZSM-5 | As specified | Phosphorus-stabilized | Units with severe hydrothermal conditions |
How It Works
ZSM-5’s 10-MR channels selectively crack low-octane linear C₇–C₁₂ olefins in the gasoline boiling range to C₃–C₅ olefins. Branched and cyclic hydrocarbons cannot enter the pores, so high-octane gasoline components are preserved. Propylene yield increases by 2–6 percentage points and gasoline research octane rises by 1–3 numbers, with minimal impact on conversion or coke at typical loadings of 2–10 wt%.
Specifying a Sample
Provide your current FCC catalyst system, target propylene increase, regenerator temperature, and whether phosphorus stabilization is required. See ZSM-5 for FCC Additives for operating data and the ZSM-5 TDS for batch specifications.
