Application Note: SSZ-13 for SCR
Cu-SSZ-13 is the benchmark catalyst for selective catalytic reduction of NOx in diesel exhaust.
Grade Selection
| Grade | Si/Al | Metal | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cu-SSZ-13-12 | 12 | Cu 2.5–3.0 wt% | Light-duty diesel, maximum low-T activity |
| Cu-SSZ-13-18 | 18 | Cu 2.0–2.5 wt% | Heavy-duty diesel, enhanced hydrothermal stability |
| Fe-SSZ-13-15 | 15 | Fe 1.5–2.5 wt% | Stationary NOx, high-sulfur fuels |
Expected NOx Conversion
Cu-SSZ-13 delivers >90% NOx conversion at 200 °C fresh, retaining >80% after hydrothermal aging at 800 °C for 16 hours. Operating window spans 150–550 °C at >80% conversion. N₂ selectivity >95% across the window.
Hydrothermal Durability
Cu-SSZ-13 retains CHA crystallinity to 850 °C dry and 750 °C in 10% steam. Only CHA provides the cage confinement that prevents Cu migration and clustering during DPF regeneration — the property that eliminated earlier Cu-zeolite SCR catalysts from mobile applications.
