Application Note: SAPO-34 for MTO
SAPO-34 is the dominant commercial catalyst for methanol-to-olefins. This note covers grade selection by Si content, typical operating conditions, and regeneration protocols.

Typical Operating Window
Temperature 400–500 °C, atmospheric pressure, WHSV 1–4 h⁻¹. Methanol conversion >99%. C₂+C₃ selectivity 80–90% depending on Si content. Single-cycle lifetime 2–8 hours in fixed bed; continuous regeneration in commercial fluidized bed units.
Regeneration
Coke burns cleanly at 500–550 °C in air. After 50+ cycles, SAPO-34 retains >90% of initial activity. Minimize steam partial pressure during regeneration to prevent framework dealumination.
